Nicole Richie Stuns the ALMA Red Carpet in YSL Shoes

The American Latino Media Arts Awards (also known as the ALMA Awards or even the Latin American Oscards) may not mean a lot to Brits in terms of the things that they are celebrating at them, but that doesn’t mean that they are completely irrelevant. In particular, no woman is going to completely shun it, when they know that it means that it’s another opportunity to have a red carpet, which effectively means it’s another opportunity to see some of the favourite celebrities wearing clothing items that will instantly make them jealous and feel as though they just have to have them for themselves. The ALMA Awards were predictably filled with occasions of top stars turning up wearing stunning outfits (and Christina Aguilera’s will probably go down as one of the best on the night) but one of the other highlights was seeing Nicole Richie’s choice of footwear for the evening.

Wearing a black gown to die for Nicole Richie’s presence on the red carpet made her one of the most memorable attendees at the award ceremony and one of the things that really made her outfit stand out was the way that she wore it with eye-catching Yves Saint Laurent shoes which you just know are going to see a boom in sales in the very near future. The platform pumps stole some of the limelight on the red carpet and most people in attendance felt that they deserved the honour to do so as well.

Taking place in Pasadena, California, the awards saw lots of great accomplishments for the many stars that were nominated for top prizes. Among the winners, Cheen Marin took home a Outstanding Career Achievement gong, while more contemporary big wins include Diego Boneta for Favourite Movie Actor (thanks to his role in “Rock of Ages”), Aubrey Plaza for Favourite Movie Actress (for her performance in “Safety Not Guaranteed”) and “Girl in Progress” for Favourite Movie. Christina Aguilera was also acknowledged for her assistance as a judge on “The Voice”, for which she won an award, and Pitbull was named as the Favourite Male Music Artist.

Kristen McMenamy’s Daughter the Latest Catwalk Star?

lily-mcmenamy-paris

Kristen McMenamy is an absolute, undisputed veteran in the fashion modelling world. Over the years, the markedly androgynous supermodel was the face of high-profile campaigns from some of the world’s leading fashion houses. It’s meant that although she hasn’t quite kept up the same presence that we once knew her for in the 1980s and ‘90s, she left her mark on the industry enough for us to be continually reminded of her work with the likes of Versace and Valentino, while her recent return to Chanel reminds us why she was such a force in her day. Now, things have changed. She has a young daughter who has just reached 18 and is ready to step in her footsteps. So are you ready for a little Kristen McMenamy? Well you’ll have to be, because Lily McMenamy made her catwalk debut by strutting down the Paris Fashion Week catwalk for Yves Saint Laurent.

It’s always difficult for anyone who is walking directly in their parents’ footprints, so you can only assume that Lily McMenamy continually has to fight against the adversity of having such a successful mother in the business. However, it seems as though she is holding her own as of yet, and is enjoying the experience while she can still cling onto that high-profile name for support. Once the novelty value of it has worn off, it will be up to her to prove that she has the natural talent to see it through, and strike some major deals along the way.

It’s only the beginning for Lily McMenamy, daughter to Kristen McMenamy. We will just have to wait and see whether she manages to achieve similar things to what she mother did, while she acted as a figurehead for the movement towards more androgynous looks in the high fashion industry. What do you think about models with famous parents who were previously known to have achieved big things? Do you think that it’s fair that they are able to cut corners along the way? Does it all boil down to beauty, or is it who you know that gets you to the top? Have your say on the matter and how you feel about this one.
